France selects nine city-wide mobile NFC pilot projects

France's industry and digital economy minister, Eric Besson, has announced that the government would back nine contactless mobile service pilot projects. The projects will test new mobile uses and web 2.0 applications in city-wide projects in Bordeaux, Caen, Lille, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Rennes, Strasbourg and Toulouse. The cities will be backed by a national co-ordination body. He added that the government would launch another call for NFC-related projects in the first quarter.
