France sets social internet tariff at EUR 23 a month

In the next few days the French government will set the price of the social internet tariff at EUR 23 a month, industry and digital economy minister Eric Besson told Le Figaro. This breaks down as EUR 20 for internet and VoIP and EUR 3 to rent the home gateway. The establishment of a social internet tariff, after many years of existence of a social landline tariff, was sought by prime minister Francois Fillion in January 2010. (A mobile social tariff of EUR 10 a month was introduced in 2009.) In the meantime, market forces have produced even lower-priced internet services, such as Iliad ISP
