France to extend tax breaks to smaller game developers

The French government has created a EUR 20 million investment fund for the videogame industry in an effort to regain the 'French touch' of the 2000s. A new decree calls for the extension of tax breaks to Pegi 18 games, aimed at adult users and accounting for a third of total videogame unit sales. A document seen by Les Echos newspaper and still awaiting the signature of various ministers, including prime minister Manuel Valls, shows an effort to strike a balance and gradation in levels of violence.
