France to sell corporate holdings to fund broadband plan

The French government will sell some of its over EUR 60 billion worth of shares in various companies to meet its spending and investment commitments, including the 10-year national broadband deployment strategy unveiled at the end of February, Les Echos reports. The government has already begun this process, raising EUR 1.1 billion by selling 3.1 percent of Safran and 2.1 percent of EADS since the end of March, and speculation is rife over which other companies will be partly divested.
