Fraunhofer HHI tests Visible Light Communications

Monday 4 July 2016 | 18:55 CET | News
Researchers at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute are currently testing a new, light-based WLAN, for which data is not transmitted via radio but from room lighting, teltarif.de reports. LEDs are used as data transmitters. One of the advantages of the light-based WLAN is increased security. Optical waves can be insulated better, for instance by a curtain. Potential spies or hackers have to be in the room, as opposed to outside in a parking lot using radio waves.
