Free Mobile's smartphone blacklist operation hits 300,000 non-returned rentals

French operator Free Mobile has moved to block 300,000 smartphones in the market since the beginning of November, on the grounds that that they are non-returned rentals, according to information gathered by Journal du Dimanche (JDD). The Iliad subsidiary decided to launch an operation to blacklist the devices at the end of October, enforcing the GSMA-backed procedure on smartphones that in the past have not been returned at the end of the rental period.
