French 5G networks start 2021 with 18,000 authorised cell sites

France's spectrum agency ANFR said that the number of cell sites authorised for 5G services totalled 18,039 as of 07 January. Among the three bands approved for 5G use, 700 MHz frequencies remained in the lead with 12,894 permits, all granted to Free Mobile. Across all networks, the sites authorised in the 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands totalled 5,526 and 3,589 respectively. There was no update on the footprint of sites in service.
