French department of Vendee applies for fixed LTE licence to bring faster broadband to rural areas

Monday 21 January 2019 | 12:58 CET | News
Public interest group Vendee Numerique, created in 2014 by the French department of Vendee, is seeking authorisation from telecom regulator Arcep to use the 3.5 GHz band for fixed LTE services across rural communities. As part of the project, network infrastructure including 23 sites will be put in place by April to cover tens of thousands of premises in areas of the department where the deployment of FTTH-based services is still years away.
