French e-book market worth EUR 12 million in 2011 - study

French consumers downloaded an estimated 1.1 million e-books for EUR 12 million in 2011, according to GfK France. The country's e-book market is still in a development phase, with 18 percent of consumers having downloaded at least one book last year, compared to 13 percent a year earlier. The great majority of e-books are downloaded legally, be they pay or free, according to GfK's book group head, Sebastien Rouault.
