French govt clears way for first three fibre projects under AMEL rules

The French government has given the go-ahead to the first three rural fibre projects undertaken under the so-called AMEL process (Appels a Manifestation d'Engagements Locaux), following calls for expressions of commitment at local level. Unveiled at the end of 2017, AMEL was introduced to help local authorities attract private investment in areas that had been previously earmarked for public initiative fibre networks. Industry association Avicca recently urged the government to step up its action on this front, since no authorisation had yet been granted since the launch of the AMEL
