French govt plans to use 700MHz spectrum for mobile - report

The French president's office has decided to allocate the 700MHz digital terrestrial TV spectrum to mobile communications instead, a move the finance ministry hopes will raise EUR 3 billion to pay part of the military's funding requirements for the next few years, reports Les Echos. The decision in principle was taken without consulting broadcast regulator CSA, the ministry of culture and communication or the prime minister's office, according to the report. DTT operators are concerned that such a move would prevent the extension of HD TV to all channels and the introduction of ultra HD TV
