French govt pledges EUR 100 mln to bring faster broadband to rural areas by 2020

Thursday 14 December 2017 | 13:53 CET | News
The French government will spend up to EUR 100 million to fund a new 'digital cohesion' initiative, supporting its commitment to improve the nationwide availability of 'good' internet access, described as delivering a minimum 8 Mbps speed. Running from mid-2018 to 2020, the initiative will be available to the 6 percent of premises in under-served areas where this minimum speed cannot be delivered via fixed broadband connectivity. The funds are meant to enable these premises to gain access to alternative solutions, such as fixed LTE and satellite.
