France's Interior Ministry has announced the deployment of new measures that will allow the government to send warning messages via SMS across specific geographical areas of the country. The project will first be rolled out from mid-2021 in high-priority locations, becoming available nationwide by 2022. The text notifications will alert mobile users with a specific sound, audible even on devices set in silent mode.
