French govt wants parents to authorise Facebook access for under-16s

Monday 18 December 2017 | 10:20 CET | News
Justice minister Nicole Belloubet has presented proposals to the French Cabinet which would make parental authorisation compulsory for under-16-year-olds signing up to social networks such as Facebook. The new measures, adapting into French law the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), aim to reinforce protection for minors with regard to consent for their personal data being processed. Details on how these controls will be put into practice are going to be discussed in parliament in the coming months.
