French mobile phone base shrinks in Q1, MVNOs boost share

France's mobile phone customer base shrank in the first quarter by 5,100 subscribers, according to telecommunications regulator Arcep's latest mobile market observatory. This contrasts with 230,800 net additions in the year-earlier period, and marks the first contraction since the third quarter of 2002. There were 61.48 million mobile phone customers in France at the end of March, up 5.6 percent over 12 months, the equivalent of a 95.2 percent penetration rate.
