French national library needs Google, Senate reports

Cooperation with Google will be necessary to digitise the holdings of the French national library (BNF) according to a report from the French Senate's finance committee, Les Echos reports. The report by Senator Yann Gaillard states that the library has to scan 15 million books, which would cost EUR 750 million and take 375 years to complete with the library's existing resources. The committee approved the guidelines of the recent Tessier report which proposes digitising as much as possible of the BNF's holdings in partnership with Google, via file exchange or by forming a joint venture.
