French operators oppose new rural mobile coverage measures

The three main French operators have spoken out against new legislation that, in their views, discourages investment in mobile infrastructure in the country's less populated areas. The CEOs of Bouygues Telecom, Orange and SFR signed a joint article in the French publication JDD explaining that certain amendments included in the so-called 'loi Montagne' (Mountain bill) would have a negative, rather than positive, impact on the expansion of mobile coverage for the rural areas concerned by the proposed legislation. In particular, the operators oppose any imposition of network sharing agreements
