French VoD operators' sales rise since Megaupload's shutdown

Several French VoD operators have noticed a surge in sales since the FBI and New Zealand police shut down content sharing website Megaupload for copyright infringement on 20 January, Le Monde reports. Canal Plus's director of film, Manuel Alduy, announced that VoD sales on its CanalPlay service rose by 20 percent in seven days. M6 group CEO Nicolas de Tavernost said traffic on the catch-up TV service of its W9 channel had risen fourfould. "It seems that Megaupload users came to watch US TV shows on its free and legal replay TV service", M6 stated. Videofutur said it saw a 25 percent increase
