FTC defends decision on Google search investigation

Members of the US Federal Trade Commission have defended the regulator's decision not to pursue competition charges against Google. In a statement, the commissioners said the FTC conducted an "exhaustive" investigation of Google's internet search practices in 2011 and 2012. Based on a comprehensive review of the results and extensive internal analysis, all five Commissioners (three Democrats and two Republicans) agreed that there was no legal basis for action in the search market. This comes in response to reports of an internal memo that said some parts of the FTC favoured pursuing sanctions
