FTC reaches settlement concerning Facebook privacy deception

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced it has accepted a settlement with Facebook concerning charges that Facebook deceived customers by telling them their information on Facebook would be kept private but then allowing it to be made public. Under the settlement, Facebook is required to obtain users' express consent before sharing their information beyond their privacy settings, maintain a comprehensive privacy programme to protect consumers' information and obtain biennial privacy audits from an independent third party.The FTC vote to approve the final order and letters to members
