FTTB services remain central to fibre deployments worldwide – study

A new report from French research company Idate revealed that 60 percent of premises in the total serviceable FTTB/FTTH market are passed by FTTB services. This is equivalent to 402 million out of the 670 million premises within this market worldwide. Commenting on the findings, Idate said that the feedback gathered from many operators pointed to the lack of an investment case for upgrading networks from FTTB to FTTH. This conclusion was welcomed by communications equipment company NetComm, which highlighted the role of G.fast and fixed wireless access in expanding coverage of high-speed
