Full Fibre seeks codes powers from Ofcom for rural fibre network expansion

Friday 15 March 2019 | 15:03 CET | News

UK regulator Ofcom has published a consultation on proposals to apply code powers to Full Fibre. The consultation closes on 15 April. Exeter-based Full Fibre has applied for code powers to provide its network and infrastructure system.

The company operates a core network between its two data centres in London and fibre broadband access networks in Devon and Surrey. It plans to expand its fibre access networks in these areas, and to other parts of the UK starting with Somerset, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Its primary focus will be on rural and semi-urban areas, and it plans to use existing infrastructure, including sewers and Openreach's physical infrastructure access (PIA) product, where possible.

The proposed networks would be able to deliver ultrafast and gigabit broadband services to homes and businesses, as well as leased line services. Full Fibre said it plans to offer broadband plans are affordable wholesale prices to ISPs. It will also offer discounted rates to community-oriented organisations such as community centres, churches, schools, nurseries and social housing schemes.
