Roku announced that Funai Electric joined the Roku TV licensing programme. Funai Electric will leverage the Roku TV platform to build and deliver smart TVs under the Philips brand that run the Roku OS. Philips Roku TV models are expected to be available in the US in 2017. The Roku TV licensing programme offers partners a way to build smart TVs.

Roku said it provides a low-cost hardware reference design so TV brands can offer a best-in-class smart TV platform at competitive price points. The Roku operating system provides consumers with access to an ever-growing library of content as well as regular, automatic updates so they can be sure they have the latest and greatest features.
