Gabon mobile users grow to almost 2.9 mln in Q1

The number of mobile users in Gabon rose slightly in the first quarter of 2016, to a total 2.858 million from 2.829 million at the end of 2015, according to regulator Arcep. Mobile penetration was at over 188 percent of the population at the end of March. Gabon Telecom extended its lead in the quarter, growing to 1.209 million customers or 42.32 percent of the total, compared to 41.2 percent at the end of last year. Airtel lost customers, dropping to 990,486 from 1.029 million in 2015, Moov fell to just under 430,000 from over 440,000 three months earlier. Azur showed growth of around 34,000
