Gabon seeks penalties beyond fines to raise mobile QoS

The quality of mobile services in Gabon is still poor, according to telecom regulator, Arcep, which fined the four operators XAF 3.7 billion in March 2012. Arcep chairman Lin Mombo said that the situation is unacceptable and the body will consider what sanctions it could take, beyond fines, to compel the companies to improve their service quality. Arcep and PMI Conseil tested call service in the cities of Libreville and Port Gentil, county seats and rural areas between 11 December 2012 and 7 January 2013.
