Wi-Fi connectivity provider, GainSpan has announced that its low-power Wi-Fi technology is powering the DoorBot wireless video camera doorbell. DoorBot allows users to see and talk with visitors through their smartphone or tablet from anywhere. The DoorBot doorbell utilises GainSpan's GS1011MEE Wi-Fi module to provide customers with reliable wireless performance and extended battery life. The DoorBot app is available for iOS and Android devices and sends a notification to the user when someone pushes its button, sending audio and video over Wi-Fi to their smartphones. DoorBot users will then be able to see who is at their front door and communicate with that person over audio.

DoorBot can be hardwired to replace the original doorbell or run on an internal battery that requires an annual recharge. DoorBot's camera uses LED technology to allow consumers to view who is at their door even when it is dark outside. In addition, DoorBot is compatible with Lockitron, enabling the user to lock or unlock the door's deadbolt via a smartphone application. The GS1011MEE module provides high output power of 18 dBm for extended range operation and features a fully integrated networking stack. DoorBot is available in two versions: the basic DoorBot for USD 199 or a package with DoorBot and Lockitron for USD 349.
