Gars Telecom upgrades Wi-Fi authorisation service

Russian operator Gars Telecom, a subsidiary of mobile operator Megafon, has upgraded its SMS2Wi-Fi service, which is used for the authorisation of users on public Wi-Fi network. The service enables the transfer of user authorisation, which is mandatory according to the Russian law, to marketing and analytic tools. The service could re-address users to promotional sites containing advertising banners after undergoing the authorisation process. The service also enables the acccumulation of data from users for subsequent analysis.
