Gates, Liberty Global invest in start-up Kymeta

Intellectual Ventures announced the spin-off of Kymeta, a company developing in the new field of metamaterials for satellite receivers. Kymeta received initial investments from Bill Gates, Liberty Global and Lux Capital as part of the spin-off. Kymeta is focusing on developing a small, portable satellite hotspot, that can simplify the connection with Ka-band communications satellites. Its mTenna modules can also be supplied to OEMs for their own customer devices. Its products target the transport industry, including aerospace, maritime and land transport industries.
