Gemalto loses Android patent suit

The US Federal Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected French smartcard maker and security specialist Gemalto's claim that the Android operating system infringed three of its patents. CEO said the company was disappointed by the judgement with regards to the scope of use of its IP, but that it would not impact its historical licensing activity, nor its 2017 long-term objectives. LexisNexis's Law360 writes that the appeals court upheld an earlier decision in a Texas federal court which awarded summary judgment to Google, Samsung, Motorola, HTC and Exedea, after finding they did not infringe
