General Data Protection Law comes into force in Brazil

The General Data Protection Act (LGPD) has come into force in Brazil, laying the groundwork for protecting personal data and putting restrictions on data processing. The new law, among other things, stipulates rules on the processing of sensitive personal data; liability and compensation for damages, and the processing of information by public authorities, reports O Globo. The law stipulates that name, address, e-mail, age, marital status and patrimonial situation is considered as personal data.
