German awareness of Bitcoins remains low - survey

Thursday 2 May 2013 | 17:07 CET | News
German consumers are not aware of the Bitcoins digital currency, with 85 percent never having heard of it, according to a survey by Forsa for ICT industry group Bitkom. This is despite recent strong fluctuations in the value of the currency receiving intense media coverage. Only 7 percent of German women claim to have heard of Bitcoins, compared to 23 percent of men. Despite the low awareness, the survey shows that there are around 14 million potential Bitcoins users in Germany, with 1 in 5 (20%) saying they could buy or use Bitcoins in the future.
