German cabinet approves updated strategy to invest EUR 5 bln in AI by 2025

The German cabinet has approved an updated version of the Artificial Intelligence strategy, increasing investment in AI by 2025 from EUR 3 billion to EUR 5 billion. The funds come from the economic stimulus package as well as a future package. A first AI strategy was published in November 2018 and the new one focuses on research, expertise, transfer and application, regulatory framework and society. Moreover, new challenges such as sustainability, environmental and climate protection, fighting pandemics, as well as building international and European networks, are part of the new initiative.
