German court says no opt-in needed for Unitymedia homespot network

An appeals court in Cologne has ruled that German operator Unitymedia is allowed to convert customer routers into Wi-Fi hotspots without obtaining their explicit permission. The court said that while Unitymedia is not required to obtain the customer's consent for this practice through an opt-in, the company still has to grant customers the option to opt out of this system at any time.
