Germany's system for collecting mandatory license fees to finance its public service broadcasters, the GEZ, is largely in accordance with the country's constitution, ruled the Federal Constitutional Court. The court said Germany's licensing system, which requires each household in the country to pay a licensing fee of EUR 17.50 per month, was not in violation of the German constitution as the fees enable households to use services provided by the country's public broadcasters, regardless of whether homeowners own a television or decide to make use of public broadcasting.
