German fixed voice calls drop in 2013, mobile calls rise

Fewer people in Germany are making traditional voice calls while the use of 'chat' services, messaging and video calls is rising, said ICT industry group Bitkom, citing information from the Federal Network Agency, BnA. In 2013, the number of minutes of voice calls from fixed and mobile lines dropped by 1.4 percent from 283 billion to 279 billion minutes. Fixed line usage dropped 3 percent from 174 billion to 169 billion minutes while voice calls from mobile lines edged up from 109 billion to 110 billion minutes.
