German govt addresses growing need for mobile frequencies

The German Federal Network Agency has published new guidelines for the provision of mobile and radio frequencies in response to the imminent introduction of 5G and growing demand from the market. The 'orientation points' provided by the agency seek to prepare digital infrastructure for the introduction of 5G. UMTS frequencies auctioned in 2000, which are allocated until the end of 2020, can be adapted to the 5G network. The agency therefore noted that re-provisioning these frequencies would be a priority.
