German govt considers vouchers for home satellite internet

Friday 15 January 2021 | 15:05 CET | News
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure said on Twitter that it wants to issue vouchers for a satellite connection at home to everyone who currently has less than 10 Mbps broadband, or in areas where gigabit connections will not be available soon. The Ministry is considering issuing vouchers worth EUR 500 each, according to a report from Funke Mediengruppe. This amount roughly corresponds to the cost of purchasing and installing a satellite connection. The monthly costs of between EUR 50 and 100 are not covered.
