German govt plans EUR 2 bln subsidies for Open RAN - report

Thursday 21 January 2021 | 10:56 CET | News
The German government plans to subsidise the Open RAN network standard with EUR 2 billion, Handelsblatt reports. The technology would allow network operators to be independent of suppliers, the report added. Operators such as Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica have to buy complete systems of network architecture from suppliers like Ericsson, Nokia or Huawei. Handelsblatt cites a joint document from the Federal Ministry of Research, Ministry of Transport, Economic Affairs and Ministry of the Interior.
