German govt proposes law to cap handset contracts at 12 months

The governing coalition in Germany has proposed a draft law setting a cap on mobile and other service contract durations of twelve months instead of 24. Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection Christine Lambrecht (SPD) announced the plans in an interview with Bild, saying she supports tougher regulation. Customers who forget to terminate their plan will no longer face an automatic year's extension, only a three-month one.
