German govt receives EU approval to fund passive mobile infrastructure with EUR 1.1 bln

The German Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure said the EU Commission has approved its plan to fund the mobile network infrastructure with EUR 1.1 billion. The public funding will be deployed to expand the mobile network with up to 5,000 masts to cover white spots, meaning areas only supplied with 2G, especially in rural regions.
