German Parliament does not find defining evidence about Huawei security concerns

Friday 15 March 2019 | 16:18 CET | News
Two commissions of the German Parliament have not found defining evidence of spy tools used by Huawei, Netzpolitik.org reports. It remains difficult to assess whether Huawei could actually pass information over to the Chinese state for espionage. A representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the Digital Agenda commission stressed that it is very important to comply with 'the highest safety standards in hardware and software solutions'.

Experts in the Foreign Affairs Commission discussed possible security concerns relating to the construction of the 5G network. Francois Godement of the Montaigne Institute warned that the risks relating to Huawei are difficult to calculate. Jan-Peter Kleinhans of the New Responsibility Foundation expressed doubts over China using 5G technology for espionage.
