German proposal for data retention meets mixed reactions

German federal minister Heiko Maas presented guidelines for the introduction of the requirement to store traffic data and the maximum storage period. Deutsche Telekom welcomes the proposal as the maximum storage period is notably less than provided in the former regulation. A Telefonica spokesperson highlighted that the proposed new provision must only take place within a very narrow range of legitimacy and proportionality. German Internet Business Federation Eco rejects the proposal.
