German regulator blocks sale of 4.5 mln devices in 2019

Wednesday 15 January 2020 | 10:54 CET | News

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said that it had blocked the sale of 4.5 million unsafe products in 2019. It banned the sale of around 3.5 million products online alone, because the devices could cause radio interference or electromagnetic issues.

The Bundesnetzagentur blocked the sales of, or asked for corrective measures on, another 600,000 electronic items in Germany. In addition, it prohibited the import of almost 400,000 products to Germany.

The regulator checked the online market in particular last year. Mini spy detectors, also called bug finders, were offered for example with formal defects, without the CE mark that allows products to be sold in Europe, or without a user manual in German. The non-compliant devices included more than 600,000 Bluetooth speakers.
