German regulator issues EUR 1.3 mln in fines for unsolicited telemarketing in 2019

The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) received a total of 57,648 written complaints in 2019 for unsolicited telemarketing, the Deutsche Presse Agentur reports. The number of complaints was slightly lower than in 2018, when it stood at 62,000, but "continues to be a massive problem", the regulator said.

The authority imposed EUR 1.3 million worth of fines in 2019, an increase from 1.1 million in 2018. In December, the Bundesnetzagentur imposed a fine of EUR 250,000 on Sky Deutschland after receiving around 1,000 complaints about the company advertising its pay-TV service to new prospective customers as well as in win-back campaigns for previous subscribers.
