German states sign pact to raise broadcasting fee

Wednesday 17 June 2020 | 16:27 CET | News
The prime ministers of the German federal states have signed an agreement to increase the broadcasting fee to EUR 18.36 from 17.50, according to Dpa. The broadcasting fee has been increased for the first time since 2009. The hike will take effect in January 2021 if all local parliaments approve the unanimously. The prime ministers cleared the way now for the necessary votes in local parliaments. In the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, however, there is opposition to the increase from certain parties like the CDU, Linke and right-wing party AfD.
