German states to weigh legislation for VHF requirements - report

Germany's federal states are considering whether to enact new legislation that could prevent a switch-off of VHF transmissions in Germany after VHF transmitters were nearly shutdown in April following a dispute between antenna and transmission network operators, reported Heise Online. The Broadcasting Commission of Germany's Federal States is assessing the need to "take legislative action" that could include obligations to operate VHF transmissions, Heike Raab, the media secretary for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, told Heise.
