One third (34%) of Germans use debit cards, credit cards or a mobile service on their smartphone to make payments in shops, according to a survey by Aris for ICT industry group Bitkom. This means that around 24 million people are paying without using cash. One in five Germans (20%) can envisage no longer carrying any cash and only paying for things using their smartphones, equal to around 14 million people.
