Germany awards EUR 375 mln in broadband subsidies, Breko criticizes expansion pace

Germany's Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has awarded 124 grants amounting to a total of EUR 375 million as part of the government's billion-euro broadband expansion program. The ministry awarded its fifth round of subsidies to underserved counties and municipalities as well as business parks. Along with private and local government contributions, this should enable investments totaling EUR 782 million and 30,000 kilometers of fibre-optic cable, said the BMVI. Over 100,000 households and over 10,000 businesses will be benefit from this round of upgrades.
