Germany considers new data retention legislation

The German interior ministry introduced a revised version of its bill on improving IT security for comment by the states and municipalities, including a clause on "new data retention", according to Heise Online. The key issue is whether, to what extent and for what period telecom providers have to collect and store customer data. Under the latest proposal, the data could be saved for up to six months in order to protect the provider and customers in the event of an eventual hacking attack or other security incident.
