Germany sees increase in IT security incidents on critical infrastructure in H2 2018

Monday 18 February 2019 | 12:13 CET | News
The German Federal Office for Information and Security (BSI) recorded 157 IT-related security incidents on critical infrastructures in the second half of 2018, an increase from 147 in the whole of 2017, Welt am Sonntag reports. The BSI said that not all the incidents, in particular in relation to the energy network, are cyber attacks. However, it added that the attacks have reached a "new quality", and their aim has changed from extorting money to sabotaging critical networks. Security authorities suspect that often foreign intelligence services are often behind the attacks.
